I am just so excited that I have managed to organise a very special 3-night trip to Tuscany starting on the 30th June including a private balcony for the Palio in Siena on the 2nd July. Have you heard of the Palio? If not, it’s a bareback horse race, dating back to the 13th Century which is run twice each year on the 2nd July and the 16th August and is what the beautiful medieval city of Siena is all about. The pageantry and tradition surrounding the Palio attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year. The crazy thing is that the race itself lasts less than 2 minutes but for the Sienese it is absolutely the most important event in their calendar. Not only that. it is on so many people’s bucket lists!
This year we have a very exclusive private balcony for the day of the race which includes the magnificent procession. We shall not be standing with the thousands of people in the middle of the Campo, nor shall we be on the bleacher seats or even peering out of a window – we have our own balcony complete with restrooms – very important on such an exciting occasion!
Together with my dear friend and tour guide Antonella, I have put together 3 action packed days in Tuscany including trips to historic towns, a Brunello wine tour and tasting, delicious food, wonderful wines, an opportunity to see ‘real’ Tuscany and of course the unforgettable event itself – the Palio!
I have organised accommodation in a beautiful 4 star hotel in the medieval walled town of San Quirico d’Orcia which itself dates back to Etruscan times and was first mentioned in 712AD. It is on the edge of the Val D’Orcia in Southern Tuscany very close to Pienza, Montepulciano and Montalcino and just half an hour from Siena. With its narrow streets filled with shops and restaurants, as well as beautiful gardens, it’s a lovely place to stay as well as a convenient location for seeing Southern Tuscany.
And for those of my guests who want to arrive sooner or stay longer I can organise that too – maybe visit Florence or Rome or stay longer in the beautiful Tuscan countryside and enjoy a cookery class with a Tuscan chef, a truffle hunt in a private reserve, a hot air balloon ride over the Tuscany countryside and/or a visit to other historic hilltop towns in Southern Tuscany.
All the information about this truly fantastic trip can be found here – but hurry as we only have limited places!!
