Thinking about Tuscany for 2017?
What about renting my beautiful air-conditioned village home?
My beautiful home, ‘Casa Valerio’ in Montisi, was available to let for the first time last year and I have been overwhelmed by the number of requests and subsequent wonderful reviews I have received from guests – thank you all so much.
As you may have read in other posts on my website, I fell in love with the village of Montisi in 2010. That same year, I bought a village house which I moved into in 2011 after a considerable building project and a great deal of love and care went into making it into a wonderful home.
It is available to let again this year from 1st April onwards. If you are interested in having a very special holiday based in a real Tuscan village let me know and I can send you all the details. I provide a full concierge service for those clients who like everything to be organised for them and I can also help out if you are travelling elsewhere in Italy.
Let me tell you something about the house..
‘Casa Valerio’ was so named by me in memory of the much loved local ironmonger, Valerio Manzi, whose family occupied this tall stone village house for generations. It was built in the 16th Century or earlier, right in the centre of the beautiful medieval hilltop village of Montisi which has a population of fewer than 400.
Now beautifully restored, this tall stone house which stands over has 5 floors, has 4 double/twin bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, a fully equipped ‘cooks’ kitchen, dining area, living room and bar and a lovely garden and splash pool.
Fronting onto the main street and backing onto the stunning Tuscan countryside with french windows on all but the very top floor to make the most of the gorgeous views, Casa Valerio is full of Tuscan style with every modern convenience. The whole house is painted in wonderful Tuscan colours with high ceilings and furnished with antiques.
Entering from the street, the beautifully tiled hall has a fully stocked honesty bar and opens out into a comfortable living room with seating including a bergere suite, a pretty wood burning stove, french doors and a balcony overlooking olive groves and vineyards. Off the hall is small guest bathroom with toilet and wash hand basin
Travertine stairs lead down to the sage green solid ash hand made kitchen with marble worktops and a terracotta tiled floor. It is fully equipped with a huge butler’s style sink, plate rack, large fridge freezer, dishwasher, 5 ring gas hob with electric oven and grill, and cupboards full of crockery, glassware, pans and everything else you might need to make and serve wonderful Italian meals.
In the separate dining area there is an antique dining table and chairs seating 8, an antique sideboard, comfortable sofa, rocking chair and fantastic open fireplace.
Two sets of doors lead out to the pretty south facing and peaceful rear garden. A wisteria covered pergola shades the outside dining area which has a table and chairs for 8. There is a terrazzo tiled pool (internal measurements 1.9m x 2.9m) cleverly designed with seat around the edge and inside so you can sit in it with a glass of prosecco and enjoy the magnificent views. There is plenty of other seating in the garden for sunbathing and relaxing as well as a small barbeque for outside cooking. The garden has an olive tree, jasmine bushes, flowers in pots and a large vine as well as plenty of herbs for your cooking! As someone who entertains a great deal, the kitchen, dining area and garden are perfect!
Also there is a small shed which adjoins the house containing the washing machine and tumble drier.
Up the original travertine staircase with original wrought iron hand rails, on the first floor there are 2 bedrooms, one of which can be a twin or double facing onto the street and a double with french doors and a Juliet balcony facing onto the garden and countryside. Both have en-suite bathrooms each with toilet, washbasin and shower.
Travertine stairs continue up to the next floor where there is the master double bedroom with a Juliet balcony facing onto the garden and countryside, an antique wardrobe, chaise and dressing table and a magnificent separate large family bathroom featuring a walk-in shower, pedestal bath, toilet, bidet and wash hand basin.
All the bedrooms have the original terracotta paved floors.
On the top floor, which has sloping ceilings and a wooden floor, there is a large open plan room with sloping rafters with 2 single beds which can stand separately or together. It could be easily used as a playroom too and there is a separate toilet and wash basin. This floor which has 2 windows onto the front and rear and 2 skylights features perfectly kept incredible wall paintings which were done by the Manzi children who used it as their playroom many many years ago.
There is also a large partners desk in the corner of the room with a comfortable chair where I have spent many an hour working!
Pretty flowers outside the front door make the house very welcoming.
