Montisi hosts the most wonderful Olive Oil Festival each year – the Festa del’Olio to celebrate the arrival of the new olive oil. This year it takes place in the village on the last weekend of October. The olive harvest is looking good and freshly pressed olive oil is very special indeed!
The streets will be bedecked with flags and throughout the village there will be stands with olive oil producers from the local area all of whom will encourage you to taste their oil on bruschetta. I have spent many a year wandering up and down sampling and enjoying them all before deciding which to buy.
In addition to olive oils, there will be lots of other things to sample including wines, meats, cheeses and honey. And there will be artisans selling clothing, paintings, jewellery, olive wood products and much, much more.
The stalls are open all day each day from 10:30am and they remain open well into the evening. I shall post the detailed programme as soon as it is available.
You can visit the ‘frantoio’ in the village and see where the olives are pressed and how real extra virgin olive oil is made and enjoy the entertainment – usually a rock band on Friday night, theatrical productions on Saturday and Sunday and more.
All in all it’s a wonderful event – not to be missed and I do hope you will come. Should you need further info please email me firstname.lastname@example.org or call me on +447836622744.
Hope to see you there!
