One of the most important events in the calendar in Asciano is the Donkey Palio in which the donkeys ‘race’ against each other representing each of the seven contrade (districts) of Asciano.

The Palio horse race is a very colourful, exciting bareback horse race around the dirt-packed Piazza del Campo, Siena’s main square, that takes place every July 2 and August 16. The race has been run every year since 1644 and is really worth a trip.
