The Palio horse race is a very colourful, exciting bareback horse race around the dirt-packed Piazza del Campo, Siena’s main square, that takes place every July 2 and August 16. The race has been run every year since 1644 and is really worth a trip. Mercantia is a wonderful international street art festival in Certaldo with more than 100 shows every evening – music, performances, circus and theatre. Certaldo is a medieval town situated between Florence and Siena. See Tuscany on a steam train!
